Not sure which one you want
A house first. Open-concept living quarters finished out inside the building, usually across the majority of the footprint. Shop space, if there is any, is the smaller share.
A shop first, with a connected house. The shop side is usually taller and takes the bigger share of the footprint. Unfinished square footage costs less to build than finished square footage, which is the whole reason people ask which of the two is cheaper.
No living quarters. A workspace or storage building for a business or for personal use, sized and spanned around the equipment, vehicles and clear floor you need inside it.
Commercial work and structural steel sit on the other side of the business. Commercial metal buildings are for a business opening, expanding or replacing a building it has outgrown. Structural steel erection — the same page — is a scoped package for a general contractor who already has the job.
How a build runs
01
Before we draw lines or price materials, we need to understand how you plan to use the building. How much space do you need? How will you live or work in it? What needs to fit, flow, or function a certain way? We start with your needs and plan the building around them.
02
Every good building starts with the right foundation. Depending on the project, that may be a concrete slab, crawl space, basement, or another engineered foundation system. We prepare the site and build the foundation the structure needs.
03
Whether the structure is conventional wood framing, post-frame construction, or structural steel, this is when the building takes shape. Walls, columns, beams, trusses, and roof framing establish the size, strength, and form of the finished building.
04
For finished homes and interior build-outs, our interior project manager works with you to select and coordinate the details: flooring, cabinetry, countertops, fixtures, finishes, colors, and more. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
05
Roofing, siding, windows, doors, trim, insulation, and interior finishes bring everything together. We coordinate the remaining trades and details until the building is enclosed, finished, and ready for you to use.

We’re not limited to standard kits or a short list of basic options. We have economical building packages ready to price when simplicity and budget are the priority, but our ability to customize is virtually unlimited. Your building can be as straightforward or as unique as the project requires.
That is also the whole reason this company exists. Ben Bowser grew up in his family’s steel roofing and siding business and kept watching customers buy a building and then struggle to find anyone dependable to erect it.
Scope
On Built Around the Hearth we managed every phase, from planning to final details. One contractor answering for the schedule, the trades and the finish.
On the Valley Springs Fitness Center we provided the steel framework on a red iron building led by Davis Construction. When a general contractor already owns the job, we erect and get out of the way.
Every commercial project we publish names our actual role. Being the steel subcontractor under a named GC is a more useful thing for a buyer to know than a vague claim to have built it.
